Bamidbar/Numbers  25:10 - 30:1

Chapter 25

10 Hashem spoke to Moses, saying:  11 Phineas, son of Elazar, son of Aaron the Kohen, turned back My wrath from upon the Children of Israel, when he zealously avenged Me among them, so I did not consume the Children of Israel in My vengeance.  12 Therefore, say - Behold! I give him My covenant of peace.  13 And it shall be for him and his offspring after him a covenant of eternal priesthood, because he took vengeance for his God, and he atoned for the Children of Israel.

14 The name of the slain Israelite man who was slain with the Midianitess was Zimri son of Salu, leader of a father's house of the Simeonites.  15 And the name of the slain Midianite woman was Cozbi daughter of Zur, who was head of the peoples of a father's house in Midian.

16 Hashem spoke to Moses, saying:  17 Harass the Midianites and smite them;  18 for they harassed you through their conspiracy that they conspired against you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, daughter of a leader of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague, in the matter of Peor.

Chapter 26

1 It was after the plague — Hashem spoke to Moses and to Elazar son of Aaron the Kohen, saying:  2 Take a census of the entire assembly of the Children of Israel, from twenty and above, according to their father's houses, all who go out to the legion in Israel.

Chapter 27

1 The daughters of Zelophehad, son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, of the family of Manasseh son of Joseph drew near — and these are the names of his daughters - Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah,  2 and they stood before Moses, before Elazar the Kohen, and before the leaders and the entire assembly at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, saying:  3 "Our father died in the Wilderness, but he was not among the assembly that was gathering against Hashem in the assembly of Korah, but he died of his own sin; and he had no son.  4 Why should the name of our father be omitted from among his family because he had no son? Give us a possession among our father's brothers."  5 And Moses brought their claim before Hashem.

6 Hashem said to Moses, saying:  7 "The daughters of Zelophehad speak properly. You shall surely give them a possession of inheritance among the brothers of their father, and you shall cause the inheritance of their father to pass over to them.  8 And to the Children of Israel you shall speak, saying - If a man will die and he has no son, you shall cause his inheritance to pass over to his daughter.  9 If he has no daughter, you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.  10 If he has no brothers, you shall give his inheritance to the brothers of his father.  11 If there are no brothers of his father, you shall give his inheritance to the relative who is closest to him of his family, and he shall inherit it. This shall be for the Children of Israel as a decree of justice, as Hashem commanded Moses."

12 Hashem said to Moses, "Go up to this mountain of Abarim and see the Land that I have given to the Children of Israel.  13 You shall see it and you shall be gathered unto your people, you, too, as Aaron your brother was gathered in,  14 because you rebelled against My word in the Wilderness of Zin, in the assembly's strife, to sanctify Me at the water before their eyes. They were the waters of strife at Kadesh, in the Wilderness of Zin."

15 Moses spoke to Hashem, saying:  16 "May Hashem, God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the assembly,  17 who shall go out before them and come in before them, who shall take them out and bring them in; and let the assembly of Hashem not be like sheep that have no shepherd."

18 Hashem said to Moses, "Take to yourself Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom there is spirit, and lean your hand upon him.  19 You shall stand him before Elazar the Kohen and before the entire assembly, and command him before their eyes.  20 You shall place some of your majesty upon him, so that the entire assembly of Israel will pay heed.  21 Before Elazar the Kohen shall he stand, who shall inquire for him of the judgment of the Urim before Hashem; at his word shall they go out and at his word shall they come in, he and all the Children of Israel with him, and the entire assembly.

22 Moses did as Hashem had commanded him. He took Joshua and stood him before Elazar the Kohen and before the entire assembly.  23 He leaned his hands upon him and commanded him, as Hashem had spoken through Moses.

Chapter 28

1 Hashem spoke to Moses, saying:  2 Command the Children of Israel and say to them - My offering, My food for My fires, My satisfying aroma, shall you be scrupulous to offer to Me in its appointed time.  3 And you shall say to them - This is the fire-offering that you are to offer to Hashem - male lambs in their first year, unblemished, two a day, as a continual elevationoffering.  4 The one lamb shall you make in the morning and the second lamb shall you make in the afternoon,  5 with a tenth-ephah of fine flour as a meal-offering, mixed with a quarter-hin of crushed oil.  6 It is the continual elevation-offering that was done at Mount Sinai, for a satisfying aroma, a fire-offering to Hashem.  7 And its libation is a quarter-hin for each lamb, to be poured on the holy [Altar], an intoxicating libation for Hashem.  8 The second lamb you shall make in the afternoon; like the meal-offering of the morning and like its libation shall you make, a fire-offering for a satisfying aroma to Hashem.

9 And on the Sabbath day - two male lambs in their first year, unblemished, two tenthephah of fine flour for a meal offering, mixed with oil, and its libation.  10 The elevation-offering of each Sabbath on its own Sabbath, in addition to the continual elevation-offering and its libation.

11 On your New Moons, you shall bring an elevation-offering to Hashem - two young bulls, one ram, seven male lambs in their first year, unblemished.  12 And three tenth-ephah of fine flour for a meal-offering mixed with oil, for each bull; and two tenth-ephah of fine flour mixed with oil, for each ram,  13 and a tenth-ephah of fine flour for a meal-offering, mixed with oil, for each lamb — an elevation-offering, a satisfying aroma, a fire-offering to Hashem.  14 And their libations - a half-hin for a bull, a third-hin for a ram, a quarter-hin for a lamb — of wine. This is the elevation offering of each month in its own month for the months of the year.  15 And one male of the goats for a sin-offering to Hashem. In addition to the continual elevation-offering, shall it be made, and its libation.

16 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, shall be a pesach-offering to Hashem.  17 The fifteenth day of this month is a festival; for a seven-day period matzos shall be eaten.  18 On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall not do any laborious work.  19 You shall offer a fire-offering, an elevation-offering to Hashem - two young bulls, one ram, seven male lambs within their first year, unblemished shall they be for you.  20 And their meal-offering - fine flour mixed with oil; you shall make three tenth-ephah for each bull and two tenth-ephah for each ram.  21 One tenth-ephah shall you make for each lamb, of the seven lambs.  22 And one he-goat for a sin-offering, to provide you atonement.  23 Aside from the elevation-offering of the morning that is for the continual elevation-offering shall you make these.  24 Like these shall you make each day of the seven-day period - food, a fire-offering, a satisfying aroma to Hashem; in addition to the continual elevation-offering shall it be made, and its libation.  25 The seventh day shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall not do any laborious work.
