Melachim A/I Kings 8:2 - 21

Chapter 8

2 All the men of Israel gathered before King Solomon in the month of the mighty ones on the festival; the seventh month.  3 All the elders of Israel arrived; and the Kohanim bore the Ark.  4 They brought up the Ark of Hashem, the Tabernacle of the Meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tabernacle; the Kohanim and the Levites brought them up.

5 King Solomon and the entire Congregation of Israel that assembled by him, to join him before the Ark; were offering sheep and cattle too abundant to be counted or enumerated.  6 The Kohanim brought the Ark of Hashem's covenant to its place, to the Sanctuary of the Temple, to the Holy of Holies; beneath the wings of the Cherubim.  7 For the Cherubim spread their wings toward the place of the Ark; and the Cherubim sheltered the Ark and its staves from above.  8 The staves extended so that the tips of the staves could be noticed from the Holy, facing the Sanctuary, but could not be seen from outside; and they were to remain there to this very day.  9 Nothing was in the Ark but the two stone tablets that Moses placed there in Horeb, when Hashem covenanted with the Children of Israel when they left the land of Egypt.

10 When the Kohanim left the Sanctuary, the cloud filled the Temple of Hashem.  11 The Kohanim could not stand and minister because of the cloud; for the glory of Hashem filled the Temple of Hashem.

12 Then Solomon said, "Hashem pledged to dwell in the thick cloud.  13 I have built You a habitation, an eternal foundation for Your dwelling."

14 Then the King turned his face and blessed the entire Congregation of Israel; as the entire Congregation of Israel was standing.  15 He said - "Blessed is Hashem, the God of Israel, Who spoke directly to my father David; and with His power fulfilled it, saying,  16 'From the day when I took My people Israel out of Egypt, I did not choose a city from among the tribes of Israel in which to build a Temple where My Name would be; then I chose David to rule over My people Israel.'

17 "It was the desire of my father David to build a Temple for the sake of Hashem, the God of Israel.  18 But Hashem said to my father David, 'Because you have desired to build a Temple for My sake, you did well to have so desired.  19 But you shall not build the Temple — rather your son, who will emerge from your loins, he will build the Temple for My sake.'  20 Now Hashem has fulfilled the word that He spoke, and I have risen to succeed my father David, and I have sat on the throne of Israel as Hashem spoke, and I have built the Temple for the sake of Hashem the God of Israel.

21 "And I have designated there a place for the Ark which contains the covenant of Hashem, which He made with our forefathers when He took them out of the land of Egypt."
