Yehoshua/Joshua 1:1 - 18

Chapter 1

1 And it was after the death of Moses, servant of Hashem, that Hashem said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' attendant, saying, "Moses My servant has died.  2 Now, arise! Cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the Land which I give to them, to the Children of Israel.  3 Every place upon which the sole of your foot will march I have given to you, as I have spoken to Moses.  4 From the desert and this Lebanon to the great river, the Euphrates River, all the land of the Hittites to the Mediterranean Sea westward will be your boundary.  5 No man will challenge you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses so will I be with you; I will not let you part from Me nor will I abandon you.  6 Strengthen yourself and persevere because you will cause this people to inherit the Land which I have sworn to their fathers to give to them.  7 O that you will strengthen yourself and persevere very much in order to observe, to do, according to all of the Torah that Moses My servant has commanded you. Do not deviate from it to the right or to the left, that you may succeed wherever you may go.  8 This Book of the Torah is not to leave your mouth. You shall contemplate it day and night in order to observe, to do, all that is written in it. For then you will make your ways successful, and then you will achieve understanding.  9 In truth I commanded you, 'Strengthen yourself and persevere.' Do not fear and do not lose resolve, because Hashem, your God, is with you wherever you may go."

10 And Joshua commanded the marshals of the people, saying,  11 "Circulate within the camp and command the people, saying, 'Prepare yourselves provisions because in another three days you will cross this Jordan to come to inherit the Land which Hashem, your God, is giving you as an inheritance.' "

12 And to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and part of the tribe of Manasseh Joshua had said,  13 "Remember that matter which Moses, servant of Hashem, commanded you, saying, 'Hashem your God gives you rest, and He will give you this Land.'  14 Your wives, your children and your cattle will reside in the Land which Moses had given to you across the Jordan. Then you will cross over, armed, before your brothers — all the mighty warriors — and you will help them;  15 until Hashem gives your brothers rest as He has given you, and they also take possession of the Land which Hashem, your God, gives them. Then you may return to the Land of your inheritance and inherit it — that which Moses, servant of Hashem, gave you across the Jordan on its eastern side."

16 And they answered Joshua saying, "All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.  17 As fully as we listened to Moses so shall we listen to you. O that Hashem, your God, be with you as he had been with Moses.  18 Any man who will rebel against your utterance or will not listen to your words, in whatever you may command him — will be put to death. O may you strengthen yourself and persevere!"
