Shmuel B/2 Samuel 22:1 - 51

Chapter 22

1 David spoke to Hashem the words of this song on the day that Hashem delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.  2 He said - Hashem is my Rock, my Fortress, and my Rescuer.  3 God, my Rock, I take refuge in Him; my Shield and the Horn of my Salvation, my Stronghold and my Refuge, my Savior Who saves me from violence.  4 With praises I call unto Hashem, and I am saved from my enemies.  5 For the pains of death encircled me, and torrents of godless men would frighten me.  6 The pains of the grave surrounded me, the snares of death confronted me.  7 In my distress I would call upon Hashem, and to my God I would call — from His abode He would hear my voice, my cry in His ears.  8 And the earth quaked and roared, the foundations of the heaven shook; they trembled when His wrath flared.  9 Smoke rose up in His nostrils, a devouring fire from His mouth, flaming coals burst forth from Him.  10 He bent down the heavens and descended, with thick darkness beneath His feet.  11 He mounted a cherub and flew, He swooped on the wings of the wind.  12 He made darkness His shelter all around Him — the darkness of water, the clouds of heaven.  13 From out of the brilliance that is before Him burned fiery coals.  14 And Hashem thundered in the heavens, the Most High cried out.  15 He sent forth His arrows and scattered them, lightning and He frenzied them.  16 The channels of water became visible, the foundations of the earth were laid bare by the rebuke of Hashem, by the breath of His nostrils.  17 He sent from on high and took me, He drew me out of deep waters.  18 He saved me from my mighty foe, and from my enemies for they overpowered me.  19 They confronted me on the day of my misfortune, but Hashem was my support.  20 He brought me out into broad spaces, He released me for He desires me.  21 Hashem recompensed me according to my righteousness; He repaid me according to the cleanliness of my hands.  22 For I have kept the ways of Hashem, and I have not departed wickedly from my God.  23 For all His judgments are before me, and I shall not remove myself from His statutes.  24 I was perfectly innocent with Him, and I was vigilant against my sin.  25 Hashem repaid me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanliness before His eyes.  26 With the devout You act devoutly, with the wholehearted strong you act wholeheartedly.  27 With the pure You act purely, with the crooked You act perversely.  28 You save the humble people, and Your eyes are upon the haughty to lower them.  29 For You, Hashem, are my lamp, and Hashem will illuminate my darkness.  30 For with you I smash a troop, and with my God I leap a wall.  31 The God! — His way is perfect; the promise of Hashem is flawless, He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him.  32 For who is God except for Hashem, and who is a Rock except for our God?  33 The God Who is my strong Fortress, and Who let my way be perfect.  34 Who straightened my feet like the hind, and stood me on my heights.  35 Who trained my hands for battle, so that an iron bow could be bent by my arms.  36 You have given me Your shield of salvation, and Your humility made me great.  37 You have widened my stride beneath me, and my ankles have not faltered.  38 I pursued my foes and overtook them, and returned not until they were destroyed.  39 I destroyed them, struck them down and they did not rise, and they fell beneath my feet.  40 You girded me with strength for battle, You bring my adversaries to their knees beneath me.  41 And my enemies — You gave me [their] back; my antagonists and I cut them down.  42 They turned, but there was no savior; to Hashem, but He answered them not.  43 I pulverized them like dust of the earth, like the mud of the streets I thinned them and I poured them out.  44 You rescued me from the strife of my people; You preserved me to be head of nations, a people I did not know serves me.  45 Foreigners dissemble to me; when their ear hears of me they are obedient to me.  46 Foreigners are withered, and they are terrified even within their strong enclosures.  47 Hashem lives, and blessed is my Rock; and exalted is God, Rock of my salvation.  48 The God Who grants me vengeance, and brings peoples down beneath me.  49 You bring me forth from my enemies, and raise me above my adversaries, from a man of violence You rescue me.  50 Therefore, I will thank You, Hashem, among the nations, and sing to Your Name.  51 He is a tower of salvations to His king, and does kindness to His anointed one, to David and to his descendants forever.
