51 When all the work that King Solomon did in the House of Hashem was completed, Solomon brought what his father David had sanctified — the gold, silver, and utensils — [which] he placed in the treasuries of the House of Hashem.
1 Then Solomon gathered together the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the ancestral families of the Children of Israel, to King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the Ark of the Covenant of Hashem from the City of David, which is Zion. 2 All the men of Israel gathered to King Solomon in the Month of the Mighty Ones, for the Feast [of Succos], which is the seventh month.
3 All the elders of Israel arrived and the Kohanim bore the Ark. 4 They brought up the Ark of Hashem and the Tent of Meeting and all the sacred utensils that were in the Tent; the Kohanim and Levites brought them up. 5 King Solomon and the entire congregation of Israel that assembled with him accompanied him before the Ark; they were slaughtering flocks and cattle in such abundance that they could not be counted nor numbered.
6 The Kohanim brought the Ark of the Covenant of Hashem to its place, to the Sanctuary of the House, to the Holy of Holies, beneath the wings of the Cherubim. 7 For the Cherubim spread their wings on the place of the Ark, and the Cherubim covered over the Ark and its staves from above. 8 The staves were extended so that the tips of the staves were perceptible from the Holy to the front of the Sanctuary, but they could not be seen on the outside; and there they remained to this day. 9 There was nothing in the Ark except the two stone Tablets that Moses put there in Horeb, where Hashem sealed [a covenant] with the Children of Israel when they left the land of Egypt.
10 When the Kohanim left the Holy, the cloud filled the House of Hashem. 11 The Kohanim were unable to stand and minister because of the cloud, for the glory of Hashem filled the House of Hashem.
12 Then Solomon said, "Hashem had said He would dwell in the thick cloud. 13 I have indeed built a dwelling place for You, an eternal foundation for Your habitation."
14 The king turned his face and blessed the entire congregation of Israel, as the entire congregation of Israel stood. 15 He said, "Blessed are You, Hashem, God of Israel, Who spoke with His mouth to my father David, and with His hand fulfilled it, saying: 16 'From the day I took My people Israel from Egypt, I did not choose a city from among all the tribes of Israel to build a House where My Name would be, and I chose David to be over My people Israel.' 17 And it was the heart's desire of my father David to build a House for the sake of Hashem, the God of Israel.
18 "Hashem said to my father David, 'Regarding your heart's desire to build a House for My sake, you did well to have it in your heart. 19 However, you shall not build the House, but your son who will emerge from your loins, he shall build the House for My sake.' 20 Hashem carried out the word that He declared, and I have succeeded my father David and I have sat on the throne of Israel as Hashem had spoken, and I have built the House for the sake of Hashem, the God of Israel. 21 And there I made a place for the Ark, which contains the covenant of Hashem, that Hashem sealed with our forefathers, when He took them out of the land of Egypt."
