Yeshayah/Isaiah 40:27 - 41:16

Chapter 40

27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and declare, O Israel - "My way is hidden from Hashem, and my cause has been passed over by my God?"  28 Could you not have known even if you had not heard, that the eternal God is Hashem, Creator of the ends of the earth, Who neither wearies nor tires, Whose discernment is beyond investigation?  29 He gives strength to the weary, and for the powerless, He gives abundant might.  30 Youths may weary and tire and young men may constantly falter,  31 but those whose hope is in Hashem will have renewed strength, they will grow a wing like eagles; they will run and not grow tired, they will walk and not grow weary.

Chapter 41

1 Listen silently to me, O islands, and let the regimes renew strength; let them approach, then let them speak — together we will approach for judgment.  2 Who aroused [Abraham] from the east, who would proclaim His righteousness at every footstep? Let Him place nations before him, and may he dominate kings, may his sword make [victims] like dust, and his bow like shredded straw.  3 Let him pursue them and pass on safely, on a path where his feet have never come.

4 Who wrought and accomplished it? He Who called the generations from the beginning — I am Hashem the first, and with the last ones, I will be the same.  5 The islands saw and feared, the ends of the earth shuddered, they approached and came,  6 but a man would help his fellow [worship idols], and to his brother he would say, "Be strong."  7 The carpenter encourages the goldsmith, the finishing hammerer [encourages] the one who pounds from the start; he would say of the glue that it is good, strengthen it with nails that it not falter.

8 But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham, who loved Me.  9 whom I have grasped from the ends of the earth, I have summoned you from its leaders, and I have said to you, "You are My servant, I have chosen you and not despised you."  10 Fear not for I am with you, do not go astray for I am your God; I have strengthened you, even helped you, even supported you with My righteous right hand.

11 Behold! all who are angry with you shall be shamed and humiliated, those who contend with you shall be like nothing and shall perish.  12 You shall seek them but not find them, the men who struggle with you; they shall be like utter nothingness, the men who battle with you.  13 For I, Hashem, your God, grasp your right hand, the One Who says to you - "Fear not, for I help you."

14 Fear not, O worm-weak Jacob, O people of Israel, for I shall be your help — the words of Hashem — and your Redeemer, [I am] the Holy One of Israel.  15 Behold! I have made you a new, sharp threshing tool with many blades; you shall thresh mountains and grind them small, and make the hills like chaff.  16 You shall winnow them and the wind will carry them off, the storm will scatter them — but you will rejoice in Hashem, in the Holy One of Israel will you glory.
